300K+ subscribers strong and cited by news outlets or Lucasfilm’s own Star Wars Show, SWL is the go-to place for behind-the-scenes updates on all productions from the beloved franchise.
In 2015, just before the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I joined the team to help improve readability and user experience. I took care of the new brand design and illustrations as well as the UI overhaul.
I had so much fun playing around with the established brand guidelines of both Star Wars and Reddit to build a consistent and homogenous look & feel.

For the 2017 version, around the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we came up with a hover effect emulating the jammed frequencies of rebellion holograms.
For the 2017 design, doubling down on the philosophy of « not breaking Reddit », I reinforced the parallels to the platform’s evolving brand while still redesigining every single icon, sometimes with a Star Wars twist.
The 2017 footer design echoes the two of the most popular SWL community memes. In 2015’s The Force Awakens once-considered opening, Luke Skywalkers’ severed hand is seen falling from space. And, in a delightfully campy rumor emerged around the same time, Luke Skywalker welcomes Rey to the planet Ahch-To screaming « MY BABY GIRL ».
Based on the official BB-8 emoji, I designed the Discord icon and Reddit mobile look.
